New York City police are trying to figure out why two American flags were replaced by white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge, according to the New York Post.
Authorities have no idea how, why or who put them there. Even though the bridge is equipped with security on both sides of the bridge as well as security cameras.
As of 10:30 a.m. the bridge remains open to traffic.
A twitter account called @bicyclelobby joked that they had done it. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams isn’t taking this lightly.
“If flying a white flag atop the Brooklyn Bridge is someone’s idea of a joke, I’m not laughing,” he said.
The Department of Transportation was on scene with a new set of American flags that will replace the white flags, according to The Post.
The New York City Police Department has taken down the white flags, packed them into a backpack and climbed down the bridge.
