The Pasco Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaime Velez, 34, Friday at 10:22 a.m., on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
After bonding out that afternoon, Velez reported to a rehabilitation facility in Hillsborough County and died a short time later.
Velez had been released from a local hospital earlier Friday morning.
Velez sustained multiple gunshot wounds during a confrontation Feb. 17, 2014 at West Coast Spine and Injury center, 1817 U.S. Highway 19 in Holiday, and had been hospitalized until his release Friday. His cause of death is suspected to be from the injuries he suffered in the shooting, but remains under review by the medical examiner’s office.
The case remains under investigation.
