BRISTOL, Va. (AP) — Wellmont Health Systems plans to cut about 50 jobs at three hospitals in Southwest Virginia.
Wellmont tells media outlets that positions in several departments will be eliminated at Mountain View Medical Center and Lonesome Pine Hospital , both in Norton, and Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap.
The company attributes the cuts to health care reform, reduced Medicare reimbursements, automatic federal budget cuts and the lack of Medicaid expansion in Virginia.
Wellmont says it expects revenue to decline by at least $25 million during the next fiscal year.
Wellmont also says the intensive care unit at Lee Regional will be eliminated and the hospital’s inpatient services will be reduced. Tjhese cuts are attributed to lower patient volumes.
