Sign of How Bad Obama-GOP Relationship Has Become: Lawyers Being Called In

Gridlock in Washington may turn into a politically charged courtroom showdown. Republican House Speaker John Boehner confirms he intends to sue President Obama, a Democrat, for signing executive orders that skirt the will of the legislative branch. The White House scoffs taxpayers will not want to foot those legal bills. Ann Compton joined us to discuss.

Germany, United States Cup Preview

Not many people thought it would come down to this, but it has. The United States Men’s National Team will survive the World Cup’s “Group of Death” if it beats or ties Germany Thursday (or even if the US loses, depending on the outcome of the Portugal/Ghana game). It’s a showdown filled with dramatic story lines: US coach Jurgen Klinsmann is German. He used to coach the German National Team. He won the World Cup in 1990 when he played for that team (West Germany, back then). The US squad features five German-Americans. And despite whispers the two teams might agree to a “non-aggression pact” to ensure the tie – meaning both would move on – the two sides insist they’re playing for the win. Scott Goldberg joined us.

Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Calls For National Security

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee says it’s time to send in the troops. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is leading the charge to have troops with the National Guard sent to the Rio Grande Valley to help deal with the sudden surge in the number of illegal immigrants, especially children, flowing into the United States from Mexico. And an administration official tells ABC News that when all is said and done more than 50% of the unaccompanied minors who come into the U.S. remain in the U.S. Currently there is a backlog of more than 300,000 unaccompanied minor cases awaiting a decision due to a lack of immigration judges and courts. ABC’s Jim Ryan in Dallas has the latest on the controversy. Jim Ryan joined us.

Maliki Rejects Calls For “National Unity Government

No Dice. A defiant Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has rejected calls for an interim ‘national unity government’ intended to undermine the Sunni insurgency. He says such a change would really be a ‘coup against the constitution of Iraq.’ He made defiant remarks in a televised address to the nation. Tom Rivers joined us.
