MIAMI (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden is visiting a South Florida elementary school to highlight the president’s American Jobs Act.
The vice president visited G.K.E. Sabal Palm Elementary in North Miami Beach on Friday. He said that if the bill is passed, Miami-Dade County would receive $267 million to modernize schools. About 80 percent of schools in the county are in need of renovation.
Speaking to a class full of students, Biden said the money would give them the classrooms they deserve and help the community.
Nationwide, the proposal would help states renovate one third of all schools.
The school Biden visited in Miami was built in 1952. Nine classes are held in portables that are more than a decade old.
