A man was hospitalized in Volusia County Wednesday morning after a deputy shot him in the face while serving a search warrant in Deltona.
The incident took place at 6:30 a.m. in a home on Maybrook Drive, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. A news release says that a man advanced on a SWAT team member who was entering the home. That’s when the deputy opened fire and shot the man in the doorway of the home.
He was transported as a trauma alert to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, in Orange City. He was not immediately identified.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, which is a standard procedure.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
