Authorities in Tianjin, China, said a shipment of explosives set off a massive blast Wednesday at 11:30 pm local time. Tianjin is a major shipping port located southeast of Beijing.
Reports indicate 300-400 people were injured and rushed to hospital.
“The hospital cannot count how many patients we have received — there are too many of them and many of them have burn injuries,” a doctor told the UK Guardian.
Tianjin is home to 7.5 million people and, in addition to shipping, serves as a major chemical and petroleum refining region.
