Uber, Lyft, Cabs No Longer Regulated In Sarasota

In a shocking move that goes against what elected officials are doing in most every other part of the nation, Sarasota City Commissioners voted to end regulation on every form of ride-for-hire service in town.

That means not only will rideshares Uber and Lyft not have to get driver background checks, vehicle inspections, and insurance for its drivers, taxi cab companies won’t have to pay for those things either anymore.

While Uber and Lyft drivers and their legions of low-fare paying fans were elated, cab companies were largely appalled by the move, which they say will make for a dangerous situation.
