Two FP&L Line Workers Killed

SOUTH BAY, Fla. (AP) _ Two power company workers have been killed after a dirt road apparently gave way under their truck, which toppled into a Palm Beach County canal.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the two Florida Power & Light workers as 36-year-old Nicholas Pflaum and 45-year-old Christopher Garcia.

They were on an assignment near South Bay early Saturday when the accident happened.

FPL said in a statement the two were high voltage line specialists. Family members told the SunSentinel they were also best friends.

Pflaum’s wife said her husband was working overtime to pay for an upcoming trip to Paris.

The area was under a dense fog advisory when the accident happened.

The Highway Patrol said the cause remains under investigation.
