Two men died in a crash involving two semis on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes near mile marker 271, which is just south of the State Road 50 exit in Oakland.
According to Florida Highway Patrol trooopers, a semi carrying recycled materials pulled off the road to check his tires.
As the driver was pulling back onto the Turnpike and was getting up to speed, the truck was rear-ended by a refrigerated tractor-trailer carrying flowers, killing the driver and a person in the sleeper compartment. A second refrigerated semi was sent to retrieve the flowers.
The driver of the first semi was not injured. It was said he was going 40-45 mph at the time of the crash.
Troopers have yet to release the identity of those involved, which is pending next of kin notification. They also have yet to specify if the second semi attempted to slow down.
