Tweet From The Beat Street Crimes Edition This Thursday

The Sarasota Police Department is taking you on another virtual ride-along but this one will take followers along with a specialized unit within the Sarasota Police Department: The Street Crimes Unit. On Thursday, the Sarasota Police Department will host its fourth Tweet from the Beat.’ The event is set for Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Street Crimes Unit serves as the Sarasota Police Department’s “go to” squad whenever a new issue arises within the City of Sarasota. Examples of these issues include prostitution related crimes, burglaries and robbery series, gang activity, fugitive apprehension and open air drug markets.

Some projects are long term and predetermined however almost daily, the Street Crimes Unit is presented with issues that are unpredicted and that require immediate law enforcement intervention. In 2014, the Street Crimes Unit has been tasked with enforcement operations pertaining to prostitution on the N. Tamiami Trail corridor.

Throughout the day, Sergeant Demetri Konstantopoulos and other officers will share what they see and do through texts, videos and photos tweets being sent to Twitter from the Partnership Policing Communications Coordinator. People following @SarasotaPD will be able to ask questions and interact with our Street Crime Unit officers.

We never really know what the day will bring, which is really what makes this such a great job,” said Sgt. Demetri Konstantopoulos.
