Tropical Storm Gabrielle Approaches Bermuda

Tropical Storm Gabrielle (ga-bree-EHL’) has re-formed in the Atlantic and is approaching Bermuda.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds early Tuesday are near 40 mph (65 kph) with some strengthening forecast over the next two days.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Bermuda, where Gabrielle is expected to bring a storm surge of 2 to 3 feet above normal tide levels. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm is expected to pass over or near Bermuda by Wednesday morning.

The tropical storm is centered about 185 miles (300 kilometers) south of Bermuda and is moving north near 14 mph (22 kph).

Farther east over the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Humberto’s maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph (100 kph) and the storm is expected to become a hurricane later in the day.
