Thieves Steal U.S. Mail From Truck

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Tampa police are searching for thieves who broke into a U.S. Postal Service delivery truck and took two containers of mail.

Police say the mail carrier had parked and locked his vehicle Tuesday afternoon and was making deliveries in a Tampa neighborhood.

Witnesses told police they saw two men break into the truck.

Police say one of the suspects tried to intimidate a woman who was calling 911.

According to reports, the suspects had parked their vehicle about a block away from the mail truck. They fled after taking the mail containers.

U.S. Postal inspectors were investigating Tuesday afternoon.

They say residents will be notified that they may have had mail that was taken.

The police think the thieves may have been after social security numbers to steal identities or tax refunds.
