Texas Prison Bus Accident Hit By Train

A Texas prison bus carrying 15 people was hit by a train Wednesday, prison officials said. Media officials report at least four people were killed in the accident.

The bus, carrying 12 inmates and 3 corrections officers, was traveling from Abilene to El Paso when it veered off the roadway and ended up on railroad tracks, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in preliminary reports.

The accident took place near Odessa.

The local CBS affiliate said officials at the scene reported at least four people were killed. The state’s Department of Criminal Justice did not expand on any deaths or injuries.

The bus appears to have gone off a bridge and landed on the railroad tracks, the Odessa American newspaper says.

Ector County Sheriff Mark Donaldson says the overpass on Interstate 20 was slick with ice.
