Teen Steals iPhone 6 From Porch, Sells It

A teen was charged with grand theft and dealing in stolen property after she stole a brand new iPhone 6 that had been delivered to a man’s porch and sold it.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year-old Lavera Udean Huff, wearing a bright orange t-shirt, was distributing political flyers in the Harbor Isles community in south Apollo Beach at about 4:00 p.m. on Monday. She was seen hanging a flyer on the door of the residence located at 5209 Butterfly Shell Drive and walking away.

Approximately four minutes later, she returned to the front door, removed a small brown package and concealed it in her bag before walking away. The sheriff’s office was able to track down which political groups were in the area at the time of the theft.

HCSO says that Grassroots Florida had people distributing flyers in the neighborhood. Cooperation from Grassroots Florida Directors led to the identification of Lavera Huff. Detectives interviewed Huff who admitted to stealing the package because she was “curious about what was inside.”

After opening the package, she discovered a brand new iPhone 6 inside, valued at $650.00. She later sold the iPhone for $250.00. Detectives are continuing the investigation in an effort to recover the iPhone and return it to the victim, identified as Jeffrey Chancey of Apollo Beach.

She is charged with grand theft and dealing in stolen property.
