Teachers Feared for Boy Police Say Was Abused

TITUSVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Teachers at a Florida elementary school say they repeatedly contacted the Department of Children and Families to report suspected abuse in the case of a boy later found emaciated and being kept locked in a closet.

Staff members at South Lake Elementary tell Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/H82VwV ) they feared for the boy’s life. And a relative of two other children living in the same home says he called DCF 12 times.

A spokeswoman for the agency says DCF investigators looked into the complaints but did not find enough evidence to justify removing the boy from his father’s home.

Michael Marshall and his girlfriend Sharon Glass were arrested in March after Marshall’s now 13-year-old son was found weighing just 40 pounds.

Investigators say the boy was being starved as punishment.
