Clearwater firefighters were called out to the Knights Inn at 20788 U.S. 19 N. shortly after 5 a.m.
A 30-year-old woman was taken to Mease countryside Hospital for smoke inhalation, according to firefighters, and a 25-year-old woman declined medical treatment at the scene.
The City of Clearwater says the blaze apparently broke out in an air conditioning unit on the second floor on the northwest corner of the property.
