Weekend Things To Do In Tampa
For the past two weekends many people have enjoyed time with family and friends over the holidays. This weekend is holiday-free, but just as exciting. For many college football fans this weekend is a holiday of its own as the National Championship comes to town. Whether you’re a football fan or not there are plenty of things to do this weekend in the Tampa area.
College Football Playoff: Fan Central: This multi-day festival gives fans the opportunity to be a part of the national championship. Each colleges marching band, cheerleaders and mascots will make an appearance and host mini pep rallies. Guests can enjoy interactive games, special guest appearances and exhibits celebrating college football. The event runs Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon-8 p.m. Tickets for adults are a $8 in advance, $10 at the door, military & students $4 in advance, $5 at the door, and children under 12 are free with an adult. The event takes place at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St., Tampa.
College Football Championship AT&T Playoff Playlist: Part of the National Championship fun is the AT&T Playoff Playlist. In its third year the music festival has grown large and features a diverse group of headliners. Headliners include Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Ciara, The Band Perry and John Mellencamp. Furthermore ESPN will televise SportsCenter live each night from Playoff Playlist Live! Admission is free and the event is being held at Curtis Hixon Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
111th Annual Epiphany: Tampa Bay’s Greek Orthodox celebrates the 111th Annual Epiphany on Friday. Help in Tarpon Springs the celebration honors Baptism of Jesus Christ by St. John the Baptist in the River Jordan. The blessing of the water starts at noon and a traditional litany procession to the Spring Bayou beings at 12:30 p.m. At 1 p.m. a dove will be released and then the cross dive will commence. Any male 16 to 18 baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church and a current member in good standing in any Bay Area Parishes can participate. The Glendi Festivals will follow the retrieval cross.
