Veterans Expressway Reopened After Crash

All northbound lanes of the Veterans Expressway were shut down near Waters Avenue Thursday morning around 3:30 a.m. due to a serious single vehicle accident. The highway has since reopened.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Vito James Prudente, 23, was speeding in the outside lane passing Waters Avenue. His car, a 2013 Infinity SUV, hit the concrete barrier.

His SUV continued down the road, crossed over both northbound lanes and collided into the concrete barrier wall on the other side of the road, rotated counter-clockwise and overturned.

Prudente was taken to the St. Josephs Hospital in serious condition. Charges are pending. The FHP says alcohol was a factor in the crash.

This crash is still under investigation.
