Mayor Bob Buckhorn will announce his appointment for Tampa’s new chief of police at 2 o’clock today. Chief Jane Castor is set to retire May 8. Deputy Chief Eric Ward has emerged as a favorite over the other two finalists, Deputy Chief Brian Dugan and Deputy Chief Mary O’Connor. Buckhorn said each candidate brings decades of service to the table and all are qualified and that whoever he chooses will face some tough challenges.
