Halloween is a holiday when dentists cringe, with all that candy and sugar affecting the strength of teeth. But one dentist in Tampa is praising candy this year, buying back extra Halloween goodies in order to send the candy overseas to our troops.
Dr. Randall Diez is exchanging cash for candy for the third consecutive year in a row. According to WFLA, Dr. Diez says the campaign is to both promote the moderation of eating candy while treating the men and women who serve our country.
“We’re promoting good health and teaching kids to eat that Halloween candy in moderaton,” Dr. Diez said. “Plus we’re helping the troops.”
For every pound of candy you bring in, Dr. Diez will give you a dollar and ship off the treats to the soldiers.
You do not have to be a patient of Dr. Diez to hand in your extra candy. Anne Abell isn’t a patient but brought her candy in anyway, but refused her cash reward.
“I just don’t want the candy in my house anymore,” Abell said. “My brother-in-law was in the service and they need our help and support.”
