Tampa Charity Worker Pleads Guilty In Fed Court

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A former employee of a nonprofit group that provides services to the mentally disabled has agreed to plead guilty to a federal charge she misled the Social Security Administration over how clients’ money was spent.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1gOzPbC) reports that the criminal case against Sandra K. Shepherd is an ongoing investigation.

Under a plea deal, Shepherd agrees to cooperate with federal prosecutors.

Shepherd, 53, signed an agreement with federal prosecutors to admit to one count of making a false statement in connection with a report to Social Security. The report involves a document in which the Hillsborough Association of Retarded Citizens was designated as the payee of a client’s Social Security
check. The group later closed.
