St. Pete Woman Arrested For Abusing Two Children

St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz says a woman was arrested yesterday for intentionally burning her 11-year-old son.

27-year-old Latasha Yvette Hatcher of 2046 15th Avenue in St. Petersburg is accused of abusing her two mentally handicapped children by burning her son with a hot liquid and whipping her 5-year-old daughter with a coat hanger.

Hatcher is now charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm, and one count of child neglect. The child neglect charge was given because she didn’t get her 11-year-old son medical attention.

St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said there was a total of five children in Hatcher’s home, ranging from 4 months to 11 years old who are now with child protection services.

The 11-year-old boy was taken to All Children’s Hospital Thursday, to be treated for a burn to his elbow. The injuries to the 5-year-old girl were old ones, and therefore didn’t require treatment.

St. Pete PD say Hatcher had abused the children because the boy vomited on her.
