St Pete Clearwater Airport Sets Traffic Record

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is reporting its third month in a row of record-breaking passenger traffic this summer.

The Pinellas County airport saw 173,743 passengers during the month of July, which is the highest number in airport history and a 50 percent increase over July 2014. St. Pete-Clearwater has seen a 31 percent bump in traffic during the first seven months of this year. Domestic traffic is up 31 percent, and international traffic is up by 22 percent.

The bump in traffic in May, June and now July is credited to Allegiant Air, the airport’s dominant carrier, despite four emergency landings that happened while leaving St. Pete-Clearwater this summer.

In 2014, St. Pete-Clearwater served more than 1.2 million passengers.
