Sex Offender Driving Kids On Suspended License

GULFPORT, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida have arrested a registered sex offender they say was driving 14 students to school on an unrelated charge over his license.

The Gulfport Police Department says 57-year-old Arnette Harrington was charged with driving a school van on a suspended or revoked license Monday morning. Police say they also confiscated an illegal license plate on the vehicle.

Officials say that Harrington has no restrictions prohibiting contact with children and that there’s no indication of any inappropriate conduct with children.

Authorities say Harrington is a private driver who transports the students to and from school.

After the arrest, parents were notified and alternative transportation arrangements were made.

Police say Harrington’s license isn’t valid because of suspensions for DUI charges. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney to contact for comment.
