Polk Pet Pig Property Placement Predicament

BARTOW, Fla. (AP) – Polk County Commissioners are debating whether pet porkers should be allowed in subdivisions.

The Lakeland Ledger reports that the commission debated this week whether to add pigs to the list of farm animals that are restricted in residential areas.

Under the proposed ordinance, pigs must be kept at least 50 feet from the property line, which is similar to restrictions that already apply to chickens.

The main issue with pigs is manure odor.

Pigs are banned in residential areas in most surrounding counties.
