ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Two St. Petersburg police officers are recovering from injuries suffered in a crash.
Police say 33 year old Officer Douglas Carruthers and 41 year old Sergeant Candace Marklin were at the scene of a DUI stop around 3:35 a.m. Monday when another car crashed into their cruiser.
Police have arrested 41 year old Raymond Richardson, the driver who crashed into two police cruisers. He is charged with DUI with injuries, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a news release, Officer Carruthers has neck and back injuries and Sergeant Marlkin suffered neck injuries. Both were taken to a hospital and were alert and in stable condition. They have since been released.
The driver of the vehicle that hit them refused medical treatment.
Police were investigating a suspected DUI involving a car and a tractor-trailer when the second crash occurred.
