Man Shot In Tampa After Attempted Robbery

A man has been taken to a hospital with serious injuries after being robbed at gunpoint in Tampa.

The incident happened at North Lantana Avenue and East 113th Street at the University Oakwood Apartments around midnight.

Tampa police say the victim, 35-year-old Michael Howard of Valrico, was sitting in his 2001 Chrysler Sebring when the suspect approached him and demanded cash. He tried to drive off but the suspect fired several shots, one of them wounding Howard.

Howard then drove up to a nearby police cruiser and told the officer he had been shot. He was taken to a hospital.

Police describe the suspect as thin and short, about 5 feet 8 inches, black male with low haircut.
