Man Armed With BB Gun Shot By Police

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot and wounded in a confrontation with Tampa Bay area police was armed with a BB gun.

Belleair police Chief Bill Sohl told the Tampa Bay Times on Tuesday that the gun looked realistic. He said the weapon 28-year-old Jamaal Bishop brandished Monday didn’t have a red tip or anything else to
indicate it was a toy.

Employees at a Fifth Third Bank had initially called police to report a suspicious man with a bulge in his pocket. Officials say Bishop left the bank and was confronted by a Pinellas County deputy and Belleair police officer. Police say Bishop pulled out the BB gun, which led to Officer Roy Olsen shooting Bishop.

Bishop has been charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
