All Clear Given At USF Chlorine Tank Leak

Tampa Fire Rescue units including the hazmat team are on site at the University of South Florida water treatment plant responding to a chlorine leak inside the facility.

USF police cleared the buildings in the immediate area and set up a safety perimeter around the area. No classrooms or dorms have been evacuated as they are not near the site of the leak.

There are no injuries reported.

The Tampa Fire Rescue hazmat crew entered the building containing the chlorine leak and verified that the automated system had worked properly to prevent further leakage. The chlorine that had leaked earlier has dissipated and the area is now safe for technicians to determine the cause of the leak and make any necessary repairs.

TFR has returned control of the scene to USF officials.
