Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a fire at a home at the 4900 block of New Providence Rd in Westshore.
TFR crews responded at 11:03 this morning. Upon arrival they found flames and white smoke coming from the two-story brick residence.
Crews made entry and began attacking flames coming from the floor. After repeated attacks it was suspected that a gas leak was providing the source of fuel to the flames. Other crews were attempting to secure the source of gas but found that the home had a self contained gas system not supplied by the city.
Crews located a buried tank as the source of the gas and secured the gas supply. A second alarm was called only to provide additional manpower required to keep the fire down and to locate the source of the fuel.
Fire loss has stopped and some crews are now being dismissed from the scene.
