Florida House Rejects Results For Tampa Seat

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida House rejected the results from a Tampa Bay area legislative race.

The House voted Tuesday during its organizational session to not accept incumbent James Grant’s victory in House District 64.

There was confusion around the seat after a judge delayed the primary between Grant and Miriam Steinberg until November. Judge Angela Dempsey ruled that a write-in candidate in the race was ineligible because he didn’t live in the district.

But an appeals court last month ruled that the write-in candidate should have remained eligible.

Incoming House Speaker Steve Crisafulli called for the vote, saying it was an unprecedented situation.

Gov. Rick Scott will now need to call a special election.
