Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit on I-75

The Florida Highway Patrol says one lane was reopened on southbound Interstate 75 Friday morning after a passerby found a body in the road. The accident occurred just after 4 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway patrol, 55-year-old Mieko Franz was traveling southbound on I-75 in his 2008 Honda Civic in the center lane. For unknown reasons, 43-year-old Juana Medellin was walking in the road and crossed the path of Franz.

Franz hit Medellin and she was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:55 a.m.

Motorists are advised to exit at Gibsonton Drive and head east to U.S. 301 or west to U.S. 41 before continuing south.
