Police seek suspect in shooting

Hillsborough sheriff’s investigators are looking for a 23-year-old man suspected of killing a Carrollwood resident earlier this week.

Joshua Charles Thomas is wanted on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting of Rafael Perez, 31, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Perez’s body was discovered at his home at 5490 Friarsway Drive by a roommate early Wednesday, officials said.

Officials say Thomas told several people that he killed Perez. The shooting is thought to be drug-related.

A black, 2000 Chevrolet Suburban was seen by neighbors at the house about 20 minutes before the roommate arrived. The SUV had been seen there several times in the previous few days, detectives said. The car was driven by Thomas, they said.

Perez and Thomas, the Sheriff’s Office says, were in the residence together Tuesday.

Thomas still may be driving the Suburban with Florida tag AAS-P89. He was considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities asked anyone who knows where he is to call 911 or the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
