Authorities Search For Baby After Truck Rolls Into River

DADE CITY, Fla. — Authorities are searching for an infant missing after a pickup truck rolled into a river in the Tampa Bay-area.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, a man was holding the infant and sitting in the bed of the parked truck Sunday evening when the vehicle rolled into the Withlacoochee River in Dade City.

Authorities say the man tried to escape the sinking truck, but he was pulled underwater. His name has not been released.

Lt. Mike Jenkins says the man’s body was found pinned beneath the truck, but authorities are still searching for his 7-month-old nephew.

Jenkins tells the Tampa Bay Times that the man and other relatives had parked by the river’s edge for a picnic after a nearby park closed.
