TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The medical examiner’s office has confirmed that a third child has died following a Tampa fire that also killed their grandmother.
The Tampa Tribune reports 8-year-old Romello Jackson died Wednesday afternoon at Tampa General Hospital. He had been on life support since the Tuesday morning fire.
Fire officials say 61-year-old Sheryl James, 8-year-old Reshard Ashley and 3-year-old Emjay Jackson died in the fire. The family was trapped in the home by burglar bars without a quick-release option on the windows and door. There was not a working smoke detector in the home.
The fire marshal’s office said an overloaded power strip caused the fire.
