2 Shot During Tampa Home Invasion

A man and a woman have been shot in a Tampa apartment.

According to Tampa Police, the shooting occurred at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night at 904 E. North Bay St. in the Seminole Heights neighborhood.

Lieutenant Brian Grant reports the two were transported to hospitals as trauma alerts. Grant says the shooting may have been part of a home invasion.

Police are searching for several people connected to the shooting. A third person was reported inside the home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.

According to Tampa police, 35-year-old Tyrone Spiller stopped by his uncle’s home and unknown suspects entered the home shortly after he did. The suspects demanded money and shot Speller. The bullet then traveled through a bathroom wall and hit 49-year-old Lydia Huggins in the stomach area. She later died at Tampa General. Speller is expected to be okay.

Police say the invasion is not a random act and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers to be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
