Part-time swim coach for Berkeley Preparatory School, Jay Goldstein, 52, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with 100 counts of possessing child pornography.
Officials say Goldstein had been a seasonal, non-faculty coach since 1999 and that he now has been fired because of the nature of the charges.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, detectives served a search warrant at Goldstein’s house, along the 800 block of Lorena Road in Lutz. On a computer, authorities said they found dozens of pictures and videos of children – 12 years old and younger – engaged in sexual activities.
Some of Goldstein’s neighbors said they are also shocked and saddened at his arrest.
“Good guy. Seemed nice. We have kids and nothing abnormal with him that we knew of and everything normal. You think you know your neighbor and obviously you don’t,” said neighbor, Cindy Repak.
According to Repak, Goldstein would have swim students over to go skiing and boating on the lake. He was also very involved socially with the neighborhood.
Officials with Berkeley don’t believe any of the images Goldstein had were of their students. They are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they continue to investigate.
Each of the 100 charges Goldstein faces is a second degree felony.
