Tampa officer rescues three from fire

TAMPA – A reserve Tampa police officer working an off-duty assignment rescued three people from a burning house Wednesday night.

About 9:24 p.m., Reserve Officer Mike Simpson was patrolling the Beach Park neighborhood near the 400 block of Shore Crest Drive and smelled smoke, police said.

Simpson found the fire at 407 S. Shore Crest Drive and notified Tampa Fire Rescue.

He ran to the east side of the house, entered and found an elderly woman, her husband, who was in a wheelchair, and the husband’s nurse, police said.

Simpson got all three to safety without injury.
