Tampa officer injured after driver runs red light

A police officer was hospitalized with minor injuries Thursday night after his cruiser and a van collided on Kennedy Boulevard.

Officer Alonzo Johnson, a 15-year employee of the Tampa Police Department, was driving west on Kennedy Boulevard in a marked cruiser when he drove through the intersection at Howard Avenue on a green light, according to Tampa police.

Celina McIntosh, 30, of Riverview was driving north on Howard when she ran the red light. The cruiser hit the passenger side of her van, causing thousands in damage to the vehicles.

Johnson was taken to Tampa General Hospital complaining of arm pain. McIntosh was taken to the hospital by relatives with no visible injuries.

She was cited with failing to stop for a red light, police said.
