Tampa Bay In Flood Watch For 24-36 Hours

A flood watch has been extended through Wednesday evening as more bands of heavy rain work their way across the Tampa Bay area this morning.

From 4 to 6 inches of rain fell Monday in some areas of Central Florida, and forecasters with the National Weather Service say another 3 to 5 inches is expected today, more in some locales.

“This additional heavy rainfall will aggravate areas that have already experienced flooding,” the weather service said. “Residents living in flood-prone and poor-drainage areas as well as along area rivers or faster flowing streams should remain alert to any rapid rises in water levels and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding be observed.”

A flood watch means that flooding is possible during the next 24 to 36 hours. The watch covers counties in west central Florida.
