Tampa Bay Express Project Probed

There could be trouble down the road for the controversial Tampa Bay Express Project, a transportation plan that calls for toll express lanes in the middle of bay area interstates.

The U.S. transportation department is investigating claims made in a civil rights complaint that the part of the project immediately north of downtown Tampa targets minority neighborhoods for destruction.

The complaint says historic buildings would have to be razed to make way for the new lanes, and long time residents with nowhere else to go would be evicted.

Express project officials say they are responding to each concern.
