SWAT Team Called To Kenneth City House

A standoff between a SWAT team and a man who barricaded himself in a Kenneth City home ended Sunday morning when the man surrendered.

The standoff happened on the 4800 block of 56th Way N and lasted from just midnight until around 11 a.m. Residents from nearby homes were evacuated and kept away during that time, although they were invited to sleep at the Kenneth City Police Department.

Officers were initially dispatched to the home after some people showed up at police headquarters around midnight and said their roommate had pointed a shotgun at them.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Justin Peters, refused to respond to the officers, so they called for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, police said.

After his surrender, Peters was taken into custody.
