Suspect In Police Station Shooting Is Critical

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who opened fire inside a Los Angeles police station, hitting one officer seven times, is hospitalized in critical condition after he was wounded in the gunbattle.

Officer Bruce Borihanh said Tuesday morning that investigators are still on the scene of Monday night’s shooting at the West Traffic Division station.

Authorities say the man walked into the lobby and after briefly speaking to officers began shooting at them. One officer was shot seven times but his bulletproof vest took most of the gunfire. One round struck him in the shoulder. He is hospitalized in good condition and Chief Charlie Beck said the officer was in good spirits.

The suspect was shot several times.

Police say they know of no motive for the shooting.
