Update: 1:07 pm – According to the Florida Highway Patrol, crews are still on site repairing the toll booth. They are now expecting everything to be back to normal by 6 p.m. Friday evening. (original story below)
A malfunctioning street sweeper found itself in quite the predicament as it plowed into a toll booth on the Polk Parkway Friday morning, spilling diesel fuel in the process.
The incident caused two toll booth lanes to close down temporarily. It happened at about 6:30 a.m. Friday as the sweeper was traveling westbound. As the sweeper entered the SunPass lane, a hydraulic door opened. According to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson the door hit the booth.
Luckily there was no one in the booth at the time but the driver of the sweeper did happen to suffer a minor leg injury.
Crews are working to repair the booth and clean up the diesel spill. They’re hoping to be finished by noon on Friday.
