State Trooper Injured In Crash With Wrong-Way Driver

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured in a crash with a wrong-way driver.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that the crash occurred Tuesday night.

FHP says the 37-year-old woman was traveling south on a northbound lane of U.S. 29 when she entered a lighted work zone lane closure. The trooper activated lights and sirens and tried to get ahead of the woman’s car to warn approaching traffic. The woman failed to merge at the lane closure and collided with the patrol vehicle.

The woman was seriously injured, and the trooper suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending a blood analysis.
