St. Petersburg Voters Head To Polls

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — St. Petersburg residents will choose a mayor and four city council seats during a local election — decisions that could swing the balance of the council on issues such as the city’s use of red-light cameras and universal curbside recycling.

The election is Tuesday.

Four city council districts are up for grabs and, with two longtime council members unable to run because of term limits, at least two newcomers will join the board. Voters also will decide whether to keep Republican incumbent Bill Foster as the city’s mayor or elect Democratic challenger Rick Kriesman.

The mayoral race has gotten statewide attention, with Republican Gov. Rick Scott endorsing Foster. Former Gov. Charlie Crist, who is a St. Petersburg resident, has endorsed Kriesman.
