St. Pete Polices New Gunshot Trauma Kits

St_Pete_2013ST. PETERSBURG — Military-style tourniquets are part of the more sophisticated gunshot wound trauma kits police officers now carry.

On Friday, the St. Petersburg Police Department showed off the kits, which have been issued to all its officers, and demonstrated how they might be used in the field.

The kits include Combat Application Tourniquets, which are nearly identical to those issued to U.S. combat soldiers. The tourniquets have become more popular in law enforcement circles and can be worn on an officer’s gun belt, according to the police department.
