St. Pete Man Faces Kidnapping Charge

A St. Petersburg man is facing kidnapping and aggravated battery charges after deputies say he knocked a female passenger on unconscious and put her in the trunk of the car, then later crashed in Hillsborough County.

According to deputies, the events started at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when 29-year-old Ray Walker started arguing with Angela Tibbetts, 34, of Seminole while she was driving.

After Tibbetts pulled over and exited the 1997 Honda, deputies say Walker followed her and began to beat her. After she lost consciousness, Walker put her in the trunk and drove off toward Windhorst Road.

Tibbetts regained consciousness in the trunk and managed to get into the car through the backseat access, according to deputies. She then tried to stand through the sunroof to get help and then Walker crashed the vehicle.

She was hospitalized with facial fractures, contusions, a broken jaw and a head laceration that required surgery.

Walker was held for questioning before being sent to a local hospital for evaluation. He was transported to the Orient Road Jail and face charges of aggravated battery and kidnapping, deputies say.
