After a day of final debate, St. Petersburg City Council has voted 7-1 to approve the selection committee’s pick for a new downtown pier.
The “Pier Park” concept beats out two other finalists.
The vote means council will now attempt to negotiate a contract with architects of the “Pier Park” design.
Total cost of the new pier project is $46 million.
Residents are apparently OK with council’s choice. A recent St. Pete Polls survey finds 60 percent of city voters approve of “Pier Park.”
